What is on the Manly map?
Around 170 places, colour-coded into eight groups: beaches, walks, food, nightlife, places to stay, ferry wharves, festivals and history. Every restaurant, pub and hotel in the guide is plotted alongside the beaches and the landmarks. Search the list beside the map to find one by name, cuisine or category, switch off the groups you do not need, and — if you are already in Manly — sort the lot by how far away it is. Each pin opens a short description, a rating where there is one, walking directions and a link to the relevant page on this site.
Can I use the map to plan a day?
That is what it is for. Tap a pin and you can save that place to a shortlist, then hand the shortlist to the itinerary builder, which will construct a timed day around the places you picked. It fills in the order, the walking times and a rough cost. The shortlist is stored in your own browser, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to lose if you close the tab mid-plan.
Is everything on the map walkable from the ferry?
Most of it, but not all. The Corso, the beachfront, Manly and North Steyne, the Fairy Bower boardwalk and Shelly Beach are all within about fifteen minutes on foot of the wharf, which covers the majority of the pins. The exceptions are the far ends: North Head is a steep climb best done on the 161 bus, the Spit Bridge is the end of a 10 km walk with the 144 bus back, and Curl Curl and Freshwater are a walk or a bus north.
Does the map show live conditions?
No — the map shows places, not conditions. Live weather, surf, water temperature and the next tide are on the home page, and the ferry section carries the timetable. We keep them apart deliberately: the map is stable reference you can trust months before a trip, while conditions are only meaningful for the next few hours.
