The local take
Ashiana calls itself the oldest surviving Indian restaurant in Manly. It's family-owned and has been run by Rajesh Kalra for more than 23 years, at 2 Sydney Road at the Corso end of town.
The cooking is North Indian and regional, presented without fuss: classic curries and dishes from the tandoor, with butter chicken and lamb rogan josh the dishes regulars come back for. Prices are moderate, and it's BYO, which keeps the bill down.
It opens for dinner every night from 5pm. The room is casual and suits walk-ins as well as larger group bookings, and you can book through OpenTable. Takeaway is popular with people staying in the apartments nearby. It's a dependable choice for an easy curry night, a few minutes from both the beach and the wharf.
