The Cumberland
A glass of something interesting in a leafy corner courtyard away from the beachfront.
The local take
A few blocks back from the beach on Pittwater Road, The Cumberland trades the beachfront buzz for a leafy courtyard, a serious by-the-glass list and cooking that punches well above neighbourhood-local status. It calls itself a contemporary pub; in practice it drinks like a wine bar with a garden.
It's the spot for the night you want conversation rather than cover bands — arrive early evening, take the courtyard, and let the staff steer the wine. Small enough that weekends fill, close enough to the Corso that you can join the louder circuit afterwards if the night develops.
The Cumberland is also in our food guide — see the restaurant page for the kitchen side of the story.
