The local take
Belgrave Cartel is a café by day and an Italian restaurant by night at 6 Belgrave Street, a short walk from the wharf. It was founded by local brothers of Italian heritage and opened in 2011 in a converted shopfront. The dimly lit, European-style room is modelled on the neighbourhood cafés and bars of Paris, with the feel of a family home.
In the morning it's a busy café with its own coffee blend and a breakfast menu that locals swear by. At night it switches to Italian: pappardelle with beef ragù, ricotta gnocchi and spaghettoni with clams, then bistecca or market fish, and tiramisu or panna cotta to finish, with cocktails and wine.
It opens at 6.30am every day for coffee and breakfast, and serves dinner from Tuesday to Sunday; on Mondays it closes after lunch. Book dinner through OpenTable or SevenRooms. It's a good first coffee off the morning ferry, and a cosy dinner later.
