The local take
4 Pines started in 2008 as a small brewpub in Manly, and its brewpub on the first floor of 43-45 East Esplanade, opposite the wharf, is still where it all began. 4 Pines beers like the Pacific Ale are now sold all over Australia, but here they're poured metres from where the brand started.
There are 13 taps, including a traditional cask ale pump, and a pub menu to go with them. Happy hour on weekdays from 4 to 6pm brings cheaper pints, house wine and fries. Downstairs, the same company runs Bonsai, a Japanese izakaya.
It's open every day from 11am, until midnight from Monday to Saturday and 10pm on Sundays. It's the obvious first stop off the ferry, and the brewpub to visit if you only visit one in Manly.
