The local take
Garfish is the name locals give visitors who ask where to eat fish in Manly. The restaurant sits on the East Esplanade opposite the ferry terminal, looking over the harbour side of the peninsula, and its whole pitch is the freshest fish it can buy, served at a fair price.
The menu runs from freshly shucked Sydney rock oysters, salt and pepper squid and Ora King salmon sashimi to seared Hokkaido scallops, and a wood-fired oven turns out roasted seafood and a scallop, prawn and potato pizza. A blackboard of daily specials sits alongside the seasonal menu, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. At lunch, the two- or three-course prix fixe, served Tuesday to Sunday, is the value play.
With well over a thousand TripAdvisor reviews and a place among the top handful of Manly's restaurants, it's the safe booking in the best sense: seafood done properly, service that knows the drill, and the wharf two minutes away for the ferry home.
