The local take
Ripples holds one of Manly's dreamiest positions: right on the sand at Little Manly Cove, the sheltered harbour beach about a 15-minute walk from the wharf. Little Manly is where locals swim when the ocean beach is heaving, and a long lunch here after a dip in the cove is one of the peninsula's most underrated combinations.
The menu is seasonal modern Australian, built for the setting rather than for fuss: fish and chips and share plates at the casual end, and dishes like barramundi with braised fennel and finger lime beurre blanc, or spaghetti with live Tasmanian lobster, when you're settling in. Desserts lean summery, with pavlova, a deconstructed yuzu cheesecake and a chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream.
Two things worth knowing before you book. Alongside the à la carte menu there's a set menu of three courses and a side for $65 a head, and although Ripples is fully licensed, you can also bring your own wine or champagne for $18 a bottle corkage. Ask for a table on the water side and don't plan much for the afternoon.
