Banco brought genuine aperitivo culture to Manly: a compact room on Darley Road pouring natural and lo-fi wines, bitter spritzes and snacky Italian-leaning plates from late afternoon. The 4.9 TripAdvisor rating is small-sample, but it tells you how people leave feeling — this is a bar that gets the details right.

It suits the early, civilised end of a Manly night — a glass of pét-nat and some olives before dinner — but linger and you'll find the room gets happily louder as the evening goes. One of the best of Manly's new wave of small bars.
