The local take
Hotel Steyne has stood at the beach end of the Corso since 1859, and a night out in Manly still tends to start, pass through or end here. It's a big pub with several venues under one roof: the Beach Bar + Bistro at street level, the Miami Rice rooftop bar, Magic's Sports Bar for the footy, and Moonshine, an upstairs rum and cider bar with live music.
The bistro does breakfast and pub classics, with fish and chips, chicken parmigiana and chicken and leek pie among the favourites. The calendar runs to live music, DJ sets, NRL coverage and themed brunches. Upstairs, the hotel has been refitted with new rooms if you want to stay right on the beach.
The Beach Bar opens at 7am every day and trades very late: until 3am from Monday to Thursday, 6am on Fridays and Saturdays, and midnight on Sundays. The rooftop opens from midday, as a beach club on weekdays and fully at weekends. Come for a schooner in the sun, a rooftop sunset, or a big night.
