The local take
Manly Pavilion is a heritage-listed restaurant and bar on West Esplanade, just past the wharf, right on the edge of Manly Cove. The building dates from 1933, when the Port Jackson and Manly Steamship Company built it as a bathing pavilion. Inside are soaring ceilings, an Italian marble terrazzo balcony and many original details.
The Miramare Group took it over in 2016 and opened The Bistro at Manly Pavilion, with an Italian-inspired menu. The terrace over the water is the reason most people come: a spritz or a glass of wine with the harbour in front of you as the sun goes down.
It opens from Wednesday to Sunday, from midday, and stays open later at weekends. Book ahead for a terrace table on a warm evening, especially in summer. It's a short walk from the ferry along the harbour.
