Golden Chef is an old-school Chinese restaurant on Addison Road, in the quiet streets between the Corso and Little Manly. Lillian and her husband have run it for more than 25 years, and it still feels like the suburban Chinese restaurant many Australians grew up with: a plain room, friendly service and big serves.
Regulars recommend the classics: Szechuan beef, Mongolian lamb, duck pancakes and dumplings. It's BYO, prices are low, and it's cash only, so bring notes.
It opens for lunch from Tuesday to Friday and for dinner from Tuesday to Sunday, and it's closed on Mondays. Takeaway is popular with locals in the apartments nearby. If you're staying at the eastern end of Manly and want an easy, cheap dinner, this is the one.
