The local take
Hugos Manly sits on Manly Wharf, with a bar and an outdoor deck right over the harbour. It has traded here for nearly two decades and is one of the best-known tables in Manly, mostly for the setting: the deck faces west across Manly Cove, so on a clear evening the sun goes down in front of you.
The menu is Italian-leaning. Wood-fired pizzas run from a simple garlic pizza with buffalo mozzarella to a margherita and a vegetarian Mediterranean, with pastas and seafood alongside, including Sydney rock oysters and barramundi, plus steaks. Gluten-free bases and vegan cheese are available. There's a full cocktail and wine list, and plenty of people come just for a drink at the bar.
It's open seven days: lunch from 12pm on weekdays and 11.30am at weekends, then dinner every night. Book online for up to nine people. Bigger groups go on a set menu, and parties over 20 should contact the venue. For a sunset table, book well ahead, especially in summer.
