The local take
Beaches Pizza Bar has been on Darley Road since 1989, when it opened as Beaches Pizzeria & Cafe. Michael Cummins bought it in 2000 and expanded it into the pizza and wine bar it is today, a casual, rustic room that opens in the evenings only.
The menu is short: pizzas with creative toppings, garlic bread and salads, plus a wine list that regulars say is good value. There are plenty of vegetarian options. The crowd mixes locals from the flats around Ivanhoe Park with visitors staying at the ferry end of town. It works for a slow evening over a bottle as well as for a quick takeaway.
It opens for dinner from Tuesday to Sunday, from about 5pm, and it's closed on Mondays. It's a short walk from the Corso, so you can eat here and still go on to a bar.
