The Skiff Club sits right on the sand of Manly Cove's eastern arm, and its deck is the best-value waterfront drinking on the peninsula — club-price schooners, an uninterrupted sunset over the harbour, and sailboats rigging up below you on Saturday afternoons. Visitors can sign in at the door; it takes two minutes and it's worth every one.
It's a licensed club rather than a bar, which means bistro meals, raffles, and a complete absence of pretension. Time it for the hour before sunset, get a table on the deck rail, and watch the ferries cross the pink water. There are cocktail bars in Sydney charging five times as much for a worse view.
