The local take
deVita has been cooking Neapolitan food on Darley Road since 2013, two minutes from the beach and by the cinema corner. The centrepiece is the wood-fired oven, built in Naples from Amalfi coast stone. Sit at the pizza bar and you can watch the pizzas being made.
The pizza is the proper Neapolitan kind: fresh dough, simple toppings, and a soft, blistered crust. Alongside it there's pasta, a few mains, and desserts from southern Italy, from Sicily to Naples. The wine list leans on Masseria Frattasi, a Campanian winery founded in 1779. There are vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
deVita opens for dinner every night, and for lunch from Friday to Sunday. Hours shift with the seasons, so check the website before you go. Book online, or order takeaway and delivery. It copes well with families, and works for dinner before the movies or before the ferry home.
