The local take
The Hold is a bar and restaurant at Shop 4, 24 Sydney Road, fitted out like the hold of an 18th-century galleon: wooden planks, candles, lanterns, rope and nautical curios. It's dark, cosy and quite unlike anywhere else in Manly.
The menu is pub food with a twist. There are gourmet burgers, chicken wings and loaded fries, and almost everything can be made vegan, which has made The Hold one of the best-known vegan-friendly places on the Northern Beaches. Behind the bar there are craft beers and cocktails, with both high and low tables inside and a few tables outside.
It's closed on Mondays, opens in the late afternoon from Tuesday to Thursday, and from lunchtime from Friday to Sunday. Check the hours below before you go, as they change from time to time. It's a good choice for a mixed group of vegans and meat-eaters, or for a drink somewhere darker and quieter than the beachfront.
