The local take
Jipang is a Japanese home-style kitchen tucked into a small arcade at Shop 9, 37-39 The Corso. It has been cooking in Manly since 1993, which makes it one of the longest-running restaurants on the Corso, and it has a loyal following among Northern Beaches locals.
The menu is hearty and unpretentious: ramen (miso, soy and curry ramen among them), udon such as teriyaki beef udon, bento boxes and tempura. Reviewers describe the ramen as close to what you'd find in Tokyo. There are lunch specials on weekdays from 11.30am to 2.30pm, and student specials on Mondays and Tuesdays.
It's open every day from 11.30am to 8pm. You can eat in, order takeaway online, or bring your own wine. Groups of five or more can book a 90-minute table in the early evening. It's a good, inexpensive meal right in the middle of the Corso.
