Manly is one of the rare Sydney suburbs where a short-stay actually beats a hotel. The hotels here are decent but pricey, and the suburb's real character — the dawn swim, the dog walk along the promenade, the late-night gelato on the Corso — only opens up properly when you've got a kitchen, a balcony, and a key of your own.
Below: six hand-picked Manly Airbnbs that are live on the platform right now, with their actual photos, what each one is best for, and a direct booking link. All six are current Airbnb "Guest favourites" — meaning they sit in the top tier of the platform's reviews.
(One note: Airbnb listings come and go, and prices change with the season. If something below is dark by the time you click, the search link at the bottom of the post is a good place to find a near-equivalent.)
1. Fairy Bower Oceanfront Apartment
The dream Manly stay if you can get a date in it. Two bedrooms, four beds, directly on the ocean front at Fairy Bower — the small headland between Manly Beach and Shelly Beach. You can hear the surf from bed, walk to the rock pool in two minutes, and be at Shelly Beach for a snorkel in five.
Key features: sleeps 4 · 2 bedrooms · 1 bath · oceanfront aspect · Guest favourite
Best for: a couple or a small family who want the absolute headline Manly experience. Mid-week in winter you can sometimes catch this at half the summer rate.

2. Luxury Manly Oceanfront Getaway
A bigger Fairy Bower / Marine Parade-style apartment for groups — sleeps five across two bedrooms and three beds, with the same direct ocean aspect that makes this stretch of Manly so special. Slightly more "designed" than the listing above; this is the one to book for a milestone weekend.
Key features: sleeps 5 · 2 bedrooms · 3 beds · 1 bath · oceanfront aspect · Guest favourite
Best for: two couples travelling together, or a family of five who want everyone in one space with a proper outlook.

3. Luxury coastal getaway at Fairy Bower
The grown-up version. One bedroom, two guests, an unmistakably luxe coastal palette — soft whites, timber, designer lighting. Walking distance to everything on the South Steyne side and a short stroll to Shelly Beach and the rock pool.
Key features: sleeps 2 · 1 bedroom · 1 bed · 1 bath · Fairy Bower location · Guest favourite
Best for: a couples' weekend, an anniversary, or a solo design-led trip where the apartment itself is part of the holiday.

4. Cosy garden studio at Manly Beach
The best-value entry on this list. An entire private guesthouse studio — not a room in someone's house — within walking distance of Manly Beach, with a garden setting that keeps it quiet at night. Compact but complete: kitchen, ensuite, queen bed, outdoor space.
Key features: entire guesthouse · sleeps 2 · studio · 1 bath · garden setting · Guest favourite
Best for: solo travellers, couples on a budget, or anyone who plans to spend the day at the beach and just needs a calm, private base to come home to.

5. Gorgeous 1-bed flat in Fairlight
Fairlight is the suburb just west of Manly — a 15-minute walk along the harbour foreshore to the ferry, with quieter streets, leafier blocks, and a small beach (North Harbour Reserve) that almost no tourists find. This one-bedroom flat is one of the most consistently well-reviewed stays in the area.
Key features: entire guest suite · sleeps 2 · 1 bedroom · 1 bed · 1 bath · Fairlight location · Guest favourite
Best for: travellers who want Manly access without Manly noise. Also a smart pick if you're staying four or five nights and want somewhere that feels residential.

6. A quiet spot with a view — Balgowlah Heights
The wild-card option. Balgowlah Heights is the leafy headland above Manly with sweeping views back across the harbour. This is a private room with its own (not shared) bathroom in a host's home — not for everyone, but the location, view, and price-per-night are unmatched. A $12 rideshare or 25-minute walk down the hill puts you in Manly proper.
Key features: private room · own bathroom · 1 bed · harbour view · Balgowlah Heights · Guest favourite
Best for: solo travellers, longer stays, and anyone who's prepared to trade some independence for a view they'd be paying ten times the price for at a hotel.

Practical booking tips for Manly
A few things we wish someone had told us:
- Book the ferry timing into your stay, not the other way around. Anywhere within 10 minutes' walk of Manly Wharf is fair game; anything further and you'll want a bike or a willingness to taxi.
- Sundays are noisy on the ocean side. The Steyne pubs spill out, the Corso is full, the surf clubs do their raffles. Quieter blocks: east of Darley Road, Fairy Bower, or across in Fairlight and Balgowlah Heights.
- Parking is a real constraint. If you're driving in, filter for "free parking on premises" — without it you'll circle for half an hour and pay $40+ a day in the wharf carpark.
- Summer (December–February) books 3–4 months out. Winter is the local secret: half the price, still 18-degree days, and the whales go past in June.
- Always read the cleaning fee. A cheap nightly rate with a $300 cleaning fee can work out worse than a more expensive listing with a $90 one — especially for a two-night stay.
Where to start
If you want one recommendation from the list above: the Fairy Bower Oceanfront Apartment, mid-week, in May or October. Less than peak-summer pricing, water still warm enough to swim, cafés quieter, and the version of Manly the locals actually live in.
