When to come, how long to stay, and how to do Manly without any of the friction.
When to visit
Summer
Dec – Feb
26°C average. Peak. Book accommodation 2–3 months ahead.
Autumn
Mar – May
March is the sweet spot. Warm water, lighter crowds, and the Manly Surf Open.
Winter
Jun – Aug
Mild (16–19°C). Great for walks, café mornings, and migrating whales offshore.
Spring
Sep – Nov
Warming up. Jazz Festival in October is a perfect excuse to visit.
How long to stay
- Day trip — Ferry over by 10am, walk to Shelly, lunch on the beach, ferry back at sunset.
- Overnight — Add a sunset drink and dinner. Stay near the Corso for the easy stroll back.
- Weekend — Tackle the full Spit Bridge walk, a North Head morning, and a long lunch at Hugos.
Getting around
- On foot — Most of Manly is walkable from the wharf in 15 minutes.
- By bike — Manly is bikeable; rentals on West Esplanade.
- By bus — The B-Line up to the Northern Beaches every few minutes.
- Rideshare — Uber and DiDi work fine; expect surge on Friday nights.
With kids
The Shelly Beach rock pools are a soft introduction to ocean life. Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary is on the wharf. The ferry itself is free entertainment for an hour.
With dogs
Off-leash areas at Little Manly Beach (early/late) and the northern end of Manly Beach in summer. Many cafés on Whistler Street welcome dogs at outdoor tables.
